Mark 4:26-27 And He said, “The kingdom of God is as if a man should scatter seed on the ground, and should sleep by night and rise by day, and the seed should sprout and grow, he himself does not know how. For the earth yields crops by itself: first the blade, then the head, after that the full grain in the head. But when the grain ripens, immediately he puts in the sickle, because the harvest has come.”

Luke 8:11 “Now the parable is this: The seed is the word of God.

As Jesus explained several other parables, here too, the seed is the word of God and the man in the parable represents Christ Himself.

John 9:4-5 “I must work the works of Him who sent Me while it is day; the night is coming when no one can work. As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.”

John 16:28 “I came forth from the Father and have come into the world. Again, I leave the world and go to the Father.”

Jesus is the light of the world as long as He is in this world. However, He was killed, rose again and went to His Father in Heaven.

John 14:3 “And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also.

He will one day come again to receive us to Himself. As long as He is not on this world, it is night.

The scattered seed grew, first the blade, then the head and finally the full grain. In the Parable of Unsaved Believers, the word of God grew in the good ground to produce much fruit. However, here in this parable, there is no mention of the nature of the earth but the word grew to produce grains which implies Jesus is focusing only about the seeds that fell on the good ground which produced grain.

The man is not making the seed grow but rather the earth yields crops by itself. Similarly, Christ is not making the word of God grow but rather it grows to produce gains by itself within every man.

God the Father loved the world so much that He sent His own Son to save the world. His Son was obedient even unto death to provide an atonment for all want to clean themselves from their sins.  Christ showed us the narrow gate and difficult path that everyone who wants to find life must enter.

Christ will neither push you inside the narrow gate that leads to life nor drag you on the difficult path so that you can have life. It is your responsibility to not only enter the narrow gate but walk in the difficult path that leads to life just as the earth yields crops by itself.

Job 5:26 You shall come to the grave at a full age, As a sheaf of grain ripens in its season.

A grain ripening is compared to the full growth in Christ which began with the word of God sown in our hearts. It also clearly indicates a time when there will not a grain that is not ripen which suggests the testing of the whole world where the godly will become more righteous and holy and the ungodly will fall away.

Rev 14:9,12-16 Then a third angel followed them, saying with a loud voice, “If anyone worships the beast and his image, and receives his mark on his forehead or on his hand, … Here is the patience of the saints; here are those who keep the commandments of God and the faith of Jesus. Then I heard a voice from heaven saying to me, “Write: ‘Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on.’ ” “Yes,” says the Spirit, “that they may rest from their labors, and their works follow them.” Then I looked, and behold, a white cloud, and on the cloud sat One like the Son of Man, having on His head a golden crown, and in His hand a sharp sickle. And another angel came out of the temple, crying with a loud voice to Him who sat on the cloud, “Thrust in Your sickle and reap, for the time has come for You to reap, for the harvest of the earth is ripe.” So He who sat on the cloud thrust in His sickle on the earth, and the earth was reaped.

It is during the time when the world will worship the beast, his image and receives his image, the saints of God who did not receive the mark but keep the commandments of God and the faith in Jesus, patiently wait for Him to appear in the clouds. The event is well described in the book of Revelation.

When the grain is ripe, immediately, Christ appears in the clouds and the earth is harvested. This parable is only about the harvest of God’s people.

Rev 14:18-19 And another angel came out from the altar, who had power over fire, and he cried with a loud cry to him who had the sharp sickle, saying, “Thrust in your sharp sickle and gather the clusters of the vine of the earth, for her grapes are fully ripe.” So the angel thrust his sickle into the earth and gathered the vine of the earth, and threw it into the great winepress of the wrath of God.

There is yet another harvest of the ripe grapes which immediately follows for the ungodly people where they will be thrown into the great winepress of the wrath of God.

Conclusion

Matt 7:13-14 Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.

Christ will neither push you inside the narrow gate that leads to life nor drag you on the difficult path so that you can have life. It is your responsibility to not only enter the narrow gate but also walk in the difficult path that leads to life just as the earth yields crops by itself to produce ripe grains ready for harvest.
