Blessed Mary? Jesus rejects it!

Many Christians including most Catholics exalt Mary, the surrogate mother of Jesus Christ. However, they willingly ignore how Jesus rejects such exaltation. In this post, we will explore how Jesus is rejecting all exaltation of His surrogate mother and attributes the honor to those who do the word of God.

More blessed than Mary

It came to pass, as he said these things, a certain woman out of the multitude lifted up her voice, and said to him, “Blessed is the womb that bore you, and the breasts which nursed you!” But He said, “On the contrary, blessed are those who hear the word of God, and keep it.”

Luke 11:27-28

When a woman lifted her voice to praise Mary, Jesus immediately shuts her down to exalt those who hear the word of God and do it.

Mary is not His mother

It was told him by some saying, “Your mother and your brothers stand outside, desiring to see you.” But he answered them, “My mother and my brothers are these who hear the word of God, and do it.”

Luke 8:20-21

When his surrogate mother Mary and His half-brothers want to see Him, Jesus rejects them to be even His mother and brothers. He reassigns that family relationship to those who hear the word of God and do it.

Conclusion

When Mary, the surrogate mother of Jesus was praised or associated closely with Jesus, He immediately rejects it and distances Himself from her. In both the instances, He attributes the honor to those who hear the word of God and do it.
