Plagues occur on earth when God’s wrath is revealed. While coronavirus is causing global pandemic with several dead and causing financial crisis throughout the world, God is sparing many. In this post, we will explore God’s judgments for using plagues, its results and how we can escape them.

Wrath of God is revealed

So Moses said to Aaron, “Take a censer and put fire in it from the altar, put incense [on it,] and take it quickly to the congregation and make atonement for them; for wrath has gone out from the LORD. The plague has begun.”

Num 16:46

Plagues begin when God’s wrath is revealed.

But while the meat [was] still between their teeth, before it was chewed, the wrath of the LORD was aroused against the people, and the LORD struck the people with a very great plague.

Num 11:33

God plagued the people because of His wrath in the quail incident. We also see God plaguing the people after the golden calf incident (Exod 32:35). A plague with a global scale indicates that God is very angry with the world and what it has become.

Financial crisis is good

Coronavirus had crashed economies of many nations. From stock exchanges to ordinary businesses are all affected. ² People are now stockpiling on essentials. God had removed the prosperity of many nations and this is good news.

Beware that you do not forget the LORD your God by not keeping His commandments, His judgments, and His statutes which I command you today, lest–[when] you have eaten and are full, and have built beautiful houses and dwell [in them;] “and [when] your herds and your flocks multiply, and your silver and your gold are multiplied, and all that you have is multiplied; when your heart is lifted up, and you forget the LORD your God who brought you out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage;

Deut 8:11-14

Prosperity makes people forget God and His commandments. Many nations had made laws abominable to God by legalising same-sex marriage and allowing abortions.

Remove falsehood and lies far from me; Give me neither poverty nor riches– Feed me with the food allotted to me; Lest I be full and deny [You,] And say, “Who [is] the LORD?” Or lest I be poor and steal, And profane the name of my God.

Prov 30:8-9

Only when prosperity and abundance are removed, people will seek God. This is good news for all true Christians.

No sickness in God’s kingdom

And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all kinds of sickness and all kinds of disease among the people.

Matt 4:23

When Jesus was preaching His kingdom, He went around healing the sick.

And heal the sick there, and say to them, ‘The kingdom of God has come near to you.’

Luke 10:9

He also instructed His disciples to preach His kingdom after healing the sick. Even touching his garment made many healed (Matt 14:36; Mark 5:27). After all, every hair on our head is numbered (Matt 10:30). Can any sickness or plague affect His children without His will? Hence, there is no sickness unless God allows it on us.

Escape the plague

Because you have made the LORD, [who is] my refuge, [Even] the Most High, your dwelling place, No evil shall befall you, Nor shall any plague come near your dwelling;

Ps 91:9-10

The only place where the plague cannot enter is the LORD. Have you made Him as your refuge and your dwelling place?
