Bars of Gates are for Protection

The mighty men of Babylon have ceased fighting, They have remained in their strongholds; Their might has failed, They became [like] women; They have burned her dwelling places, The bars of her [gate] are broken.

Jeremiah 51:30

In the book of Jeremiah, we can see how the bars of gates were mentioned as part of protecting the city.

Surely, your people in your midst [are] women! The gates of your land are wide open for your enemies; Fire shall devour the bars of your [gates.]

Nahum 3:13

Similarly, in the book of Nahum, bars of gates were mentioned symbolically for protection. This is important for us to protect us from our enemies.

How to Strengthen our Protection?

He does not delight in the strength of the horse; He takes no pleasure in the legs of a man. The LORD takes pleasure in those who fear Him, In those who hope in His mercy. Praise the LORD, O Jerusalem! Praise your God, O Zion! For He has strengthened the bars of your gates; He has blessed your children within you.

Psalms 147:10-13

Only God can strengthen the bars of our gates. This is very important for the blessings of our children who are within our household. However, for God to strengthen the bars of our gates to protect us, we must not trust in our strength for our protection but fear Him and hope in His mercy for our protection. Only then, He strengthens the bars of our gates.

Conclusion

Strengthening the bars of gates occurs only in a few places in Scriptures. But it is very important for not only protecting us from our enemies but also for the blessings of our children within our gates. For God to strengthen the bars of our gates, we must trust in Him and hope in His mercy.

This sounds much like the ‘Hedge of Protection’ that is mentioned in Job.(Job 1:10 ) Even satan knew there was a hedge that God put around Job to bless and protect him . I know many are reading and praying Psalm 91 for protection. Thank you for this study.
